ACC thanks all who participated
On Saturday March 21, about 100 volunteers representing Allen, Frisco, Plano and McKinney began the ongoing project of cleaning up and maintaining the future site of the Arts of Collin County performing arts hall and 100 plus acre arts park.
Volunteers represented Collin County area Eagle and Boy Scout Troops, Allen High School National Honor Society, Centennial High Interact Club, Frisco Mayor's Youth Council, Plano Youth Advisory Commission and community volunteers.
The parks departments of Allen, Frisco and Plano prepared the site for the volunteers by clearing away much of the underbrush and dead trees which enabled volunteers to reach all areas of the site to clean up trash and debris. The dead trees and underbrush were chipped for use on the future Discovery Trail.
On a beautiful spring morning volunteers were able to visualize the beauty and potential of the site where buildings hosting all kinds of performing and visual arts performances and learning opportunities will soon be built. The natural site will feature outdoor sculpture gardens, a stage for events and festivals, trails, native demonstration gardens and outdoor education opportunities. The site clean up and maintenance will be an ongoing project and the ACC hopes the site will be adopted by Eagle and Boy Scouts for long-term service projects.
The ACC thanks the following organizations who donated services and supplies to make the clean up day a success: Allen, Frisco and Plano Parks Departments, Allen Community Services and Keep Allen Beautiful, Wal-Mart - Frisco, Community Waste Disposal, Mario Sinacola and Sons, David Hicks Company and Twin Creeks. The Arts of Collin County is planning to begin hosting informal events on the site later this year. For more photos of clean up day, visit www.artsofcollincounty.org.
About the Arts of Collin County
In 2004, the cities of Allen, Frisco and Plano entered into an agreement to create the Arts of Collin County Commission, Inc. The Commission is a public/private collaboration charged with planning, designing, building and operating a multi-purpose performing arts center in Collin County. The popular community appeal of the project resulted in the approval of $57 million in bond commitments from the three cities, and the partnership is recognized as being unique in the nation. The project is designed and ready to begin construction. A private fundraising campaign to raise the final $18 million needed to fully fund the project is under way. Ground breaking is expected in late 2009.
