ACC Elects New Board President
NEW PRESIDENT AND APPOINTMENTS TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR ARTS OF COLLIN COUNTY COMMISSION, INC.
COLLIN COUNTY, Texas – ( October 20, 2009 ) – After serving for three years, Steve Matthews of Allen has completed his term as president of the Arts of Collin County Commission Board of Directors. Bobby Baggett of Plano was elected on Thursday, October 15, 2009 as the third president of the Arts of Collin County Commission. Previous to Steve Matthew’s leadership, the inaugural president was Dr. Robbie Robinson.
"Steve's leadership as President of the Board for the last three years has been invaluable in moving the project forward through the process of translating ideas into a world-class design, securing private commitments to support the project and now as we are about to bid the project and move to groundbreaking. His commitment since 2000, when it was just an idea, is a major reason why The Arts of Collin County is here today, and we know he will continue to be a strong supporter and will join us on center stage on opening night," said Mike Simpson, Executive Director.
Craig Sundell’s appointment as Allen’s representative to the Arts of Collin County Commission was approved by the Allen City Council on September 29, 2009 and he was sworn into the Arts of Collin County Commission on Thursday, October 15, 2009. In addition to Sundell of Allen, Dr. Betty Bell Muns of Plano was re-appointed to the Commission.
“Growing up in a suburb of Washington D.C. , our family actively attended the arts, teaching us a lifelong appreciation for the arts. I am grateful for my introduction to music at an early age,” stated Sundell. Sundell is the general manager of The Westin Stonebriar Resort in Frisco and has enjoyed a 20+ year career in hospitality.
“We are thrilled to welcome Craig to the Arts of Collin County Board. His background in guest experience and appreciation for the arts will be a tremendous asset to us. We’re grateful for his leadership as we continue with our private fundraising campaign and move toward the bid process for Phase One of the project,” said Simpson.
Dr. Muns and her husband, James, are advocates for the arts in many ways as donors to the Plano Symphony Orchestra and Arts of Collin County as well as sharing their leadership to many arts organizations. Dr. Muns serves as Vice President of the Board.
The Arts of Collin County Board of Directors was recently expanded from five to seven members with two members representing each of the three owner cities, Allen, Frisco and Plano and one at-large member. Only one seat remains vacant, that of the at-large member. The remaining representatives include Nick Barretta of Frisco, Jim Minyard of Frisco, and Charles Nies of Allen.
